Box Recycling Ideas
IN THE KITCHEN
Compost with WORMS!
Take a box with a lid, fill it with shredded paper and add your food scraps.
No more clam shells!
Put a piece of tin foil in your purse or wallet and use for leftovers instead of those big clam shells. If you forget, request that the restaurant bring you tin foil instead of a "to-go box".
Paper towels/napkins
Use each more than once, then add to compost pile
Eat better!
Processed food use lots of packaging. Buy more fresh fruits and vegetables and bulk grains. You can compost the fruit and vegetable waste You will reduce your food budget your waste and your waist!!.
One or two liter plastic soda bottles
Cut the bottom off and use the top portion as a funnel, the bottom portion can be used to store nails etc. in your garage.
Recycle water
Collect water from your kitchen sink and use them to water your garden; kitchen water has lots of nutrients in it.
No need for Tupperware
Reuse plastic food containers, glass jars and deli containers for leftovers.
Those darn plastic bags!
- Throw plastic vegetable and fruit bags in the washing machine to clean for reuse.
- Give your old plastic bags to vendors at the Farmer's Market for re-use.
- Use the paper bags for bottles of wine as lunch bags.
- Rinse out and use for trash can liners; be sure to tie shut before depositing in collection can.
- Rinse out and use inside winter boots for short-term insulation.
No more paper towels or napkins
Use cloth towels and rags instead of paper towels, and cloth napkins instead of paper ones.
Egg cartons
Take to the farmers market and give to the people that sell eggs.
At the grocery store
- Replace Individual drink boxes with small reusable plastic juice containers.
- Buy bulk foods and take your own cloth or net shopping bags to the store.

Buy organic and locally grown produce.
Food waste

Compost all food and yard clippings.
- Bury vegetable or fruit waste with seeds in one corner of your garden and next year you will see their plants.
Torn Coffee Filters
- Use to clean windows and mirrors; they are lint-free so they'll leave windows sparkling.
- Protect china. Separate your good dishes by putting a coffee filter between each dish.
- Cover bowls or dishes when cooking in the microwave.
FOR YOUR NEXT PARTY
Cutlery
Use paper plates, napkins and cups. At the end of the party throw (remove meat) into your compost pile!
Activities
Ask attendees to bring something from home they want to swap with another party-goer. Anything not claimed, give to charity.
